The Calgary Flames are currently missing four players from their lineup. While two of those players, forwards Anthony Mantha and Justin Kirkland, are done for the season, the good news is that two other injured Flames are trending towards returns.
Per Flames head coach Ryan Huska’s media comments after morning skate on Tuesday (via Flames TV), forward Connor Zary and defenceman Kevin Bahl have resumed skating.
Huska mentioned recently that Zary was going to be resuming skating, and he was asked about it by Postmedia’s Wes Gilbertson.
“He’s been on the ice two times here,” said Huska. “The last two days he’s been on the ice, and he’s going to continue to keep skating. Everything’s looking good.”
Aaron Vickers of NHL.com followed up on a comment by Huska referencing Bahl while discussing the club’s blueline group, by asking if Bahl might be an option before the 4 Nations Face-Off.
“We’ll see,” said Huska. “He’s progressing. He was on the ice with Connor the last couple days as well.”
Zary was injured back on Jan. 7 on a hit from Anaheim Ducks defenceman Drew Helleson. The Flames’ first-round selection in 2020, Zary’s in the midst of his second NHL season and has settled in really nicely as an offensive-minded, versatile forward. He had 10 goals and 22 points through 40 games prior to his injury.
Bahl was injured on Jan. 25 on a hit from Minnesota Wild forward Jakub Lauko. Acquired from New Jersey in the Jacob Markstrom trade, Bahl was become a fixture in the Flames’ top four defensive group on a pairing with Rasmus Andersson. Prior to his injury, he had two goals and 14 points through 47 games.
The Flames have three games remaining until the 4 Nations Face-off break. They host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night at the Saddledome.
