The Calgary Flames are an up-and-coming team with a young locker room. They have very few established National Hockey League players that can play the right side, aside from maybe Michael Frolik.

So it makes a lot of sense that the Flames have been connected to veteran right-winger Troy Brouwer over the last while.

The fit makes some sense. He’s 30. He’s a right shot. He’s from Western Canada (okay, Vancouver). He’s been an NHL regular since 2008-09 and has made the playoffs all but once – playing 98 NHL post-season games. He spent last season with the St. Louis Blues, putting up 18 goals and 39 points.

Brouwer could be a decent fit at the right price, but there are some stylistic and numerical similarities to now-retired Flames winger Curtis Glencross in his final season of play.

He’s not quite Glencross-level, but if the cap hit is too rich or the term a bit long, bear that in mind.
