Flames fans react to acquiring Simon Nemec and Maxim Tsyplakov from the Devils

On Tuesday afternoon, after weeks of chats about concepts, the Calgary Flames pulled the trigger on a pretty significant swap with the New Jersey Devils.
Headed to the Flames are defender Simon Nemec and forward Maxim Tsyplakov. Headed to the Devils are a 2026 third-round pick (the Rangers’), a 2027 first-round pick (Vegas’), a 2028 first-round pick (Colorado’s) and defender Etienne Morin.
Following the move, we went to social media to ask our followers: hey, what did you think of the trade?
As of late Tuesday evening, 83.8% of respondents indicated that they liked the trade, with the remaining 16.2% saying they did not like the trade.

They liked it
The majority of folks that left a comment on social media indicated favourable feelings towards the trade.
Price was high but still like the move
In a vacuum, it's a great trade for the Flames. Reminiscent of the Hamilton trade, but giving up likely lower value picks. It does create a situation where Parekh may want to move in a few years for the same reason, but that's a good problem to have. Could also mean Parekh to AHL
Tsyplakov will be the difference maker in this trade. He's going to go from 2 to 30 snipes.
Conroy did well here. I'm a believer in Nemec. Dividends, baby.
Consolidation of late picks that won’t play nhl hockey for 4-5 years if at all for a stud dman that needs a bit of polish? Yes pls.
The only thing that clouds the trade is it now puts Kuznetsov on the 3rd pairing for now. I know it’s a good problem to have but I believe Kuznetsov should and deserves to be top 4
We knew Conroy wasnt going to keep all those picks and made a deal that makes sense for their time line, Nemec now will get top pair minutes to develop his game with Flames
Every year flames fans complain about getting mushy middle draft picks. Nemec isnt mushy middle. He’ll play a ton here and be a stud and the picks we sent NJ will be mushy middle top 9 players. Win for Conroy
They didn’t like it
The fans commenting about not liking the trade were a minority, but still existed.
Conroy wasting our lottery tickets on a guy thats ceiling is a top 4 D
They’re not sure yet
Finally, another chunk of fans hadn’t made their minds up quite yet.
If he’s used to get SJ’s 2nd overall, I am all for it.
If they flip him... I'm good. If not. Bad assets management. Cup winners don't have many guys like this on the back end.
I don’t like it but I don’t hate it. It’s an interesting move that doesn’t have a right or wrong answer at the moment.
