The Calgary Flames now have a pair of 30-goal scorers on their roster. In the first period of the Flames’ game on Wednesday against the New Jersey Devils, forward Andrew Mangiapane scored his 30th goal of the season, putting a puck past Devils goaltender Nico Daws. Mangiapane joins Elias Lindholm as Calgary’s 30-goal scorers.
Mangiapane intercepted a pass attempt in the New Jersey zone, circled around the Devils’ net and found Chris Tanev at the point. Tanev’s shot was stopped in traffic, but Mangiapane grabbed the rebound and fired it past Daws (with the puck glancing slightly off defender Ty Smith on the way).
The 30th goal is the latest achievement in Mangiapane’s offensive breakout campaign. Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Mangiapane’s prior career offensive high marks were 18 goals and 32 points (from 2020-21). His 30th goal represented his 44th point of the 2021-22 season.
The Flames lead New Jersey 2-1 after the first period.
