A day after dropping a home outing against Vegas, the Calgary Flames (1-3-0, 2 points) are looking to get back into the win column when they head to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Mammoth (1-2-0, 2 points).
It’s the second half of a back-to-back with travel for the Flames after they let a good start go to waste against Vegas. Can the Flames rally back from their third consecutive loss and get their season back on track?
Today’s broadcast begins at 7:30 p.m. MT on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

The Flames

Tuesday’s lines via Daily Faceoff:
Matvei Gridin – Nazem Kadri – Matt Coronato
Joel Farabee – Morgan Frost – Yegor Sharangovich
Sam Honzek – Mikael Backlund – Blake Coleman
Ryan Lomberg – Connor Zary – Adam Klapka
Kevin Bahl – Rasmus Andersson
MacKenzie Weegar – Daniil Miromanov
Joel Hanley – Zayne Parekh
We’re expecting Devin Cooley to get his first start of the season (and first with the Flames), backed up by Dustin Wolf. Tuesday’s extras were Jake Bean, Brayden Pachal and Justin Kirkland. We would expect some changes after Tuesday’s loss. In particular: we would be very surprised if we saw Daniil Miromanov against Utah after he was pretty stationary in his defending on Jake Eichel’s game-winning goal.
The Flames haven’t played a complete 60 minute game yet this season, and they were quite fortunate that Edmonton imploded against them on opening night. And yes, the Flames did a nice job of capitalizing on their chances in Edmonton… but that was probably the only time this season they have. The Flames simply have to get back to their tight-checking, physical style of game, and play that for three periods, or else they might run out of time to get their season on track.
The Flames have not won in Utah in two visits or against Utah in three outings against them.

The Mammoth

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Clayton Keller – Barrett Hayton – Nick Schmaltz
Dylan Guenther – Logan Cooley – J.J. Peterka
Lawson Crouse – Jack McBain – Michael Carcone
Brandon Tanev – Kevin Stenlund – Kailer Yamamoto
Mikhail Sergachev – Olli Maatta
Nate Schmidt – John Marino
Ian Cole – Dmitri Simashev
We’re expecting Karel Vejmelka to start in net, backed up by Vitek Vanecek. The projected extra is Nick DeSimone.
Utah’s off to a bit of a slow start. They’ve scored five goals through three games. But when you look at their roster, you don’t have to stretch your mind too hard to imagine some players on their roster having big offensive seasons. That means that teams need to treat Utah with respect, and play some physical defence against them. If you give their forwards time and space to operate, it probably won’t end too well.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Jonathan Huberdeau and Martin Pospisil.
The Mammoth are without Alex Kerfoot, Liam O’Brien, Sean Durzi and Juuso Valimaki.
