Flames Game Day 54: A matinee against San Jose (2pm MT, SN)

With three games left to go before everyone adjourns for three weeks for the Olympics, the Calgary Flames (21-26-6, 48 points) are kicking off a three game home stand to close out their pre-Olympics schedule when they host the San Jose Sharks (27-21-4, 58 points). The Flames have yet to put up a win since the Rasmus Andersson trade, and they’re hoping to get some swagger back on home ice.
Today’s broadcast begins at 2 p.m. MT on Sportsnet’s national feed and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

The Flames didn’t skate on Friday and there’s no morning skate due to the early start, so we’re making some guesses based on the last few games. We’re projecting Dustin Wolf to start in net, backed up by Devin Cooley, continuing their goalie rotation. The projected extra skaters are Brayden Pachal and Ryan Lomberg.
The Flames are 3-9-1 in 2026. They’re 0-3-2 over their past five games, scoring just seven goals in that span. Two of those goals were scored by Morgan Frost. So… yeah. The Flames need to score more goals.
The Flames begin Saturday chasing Utah, the West’s eighth-best team by points percentage, for the final playoff spot. They would need 11 more points to match Utah in points percentage.
The Sharks
Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Collin Graf – Macklin Celebrini – Will Smith
Pavol Regenda – Alexander Wennberg – Tyler Toffoli
William Eklund – Michael Misa – Adam Gaudette
Barclay Goodrow – Zack Ostapchuk – Ryan Reaves

Dmitry Orlov – John Klingberg
Mario Ferraro – Timothy Liljegren
Sam Dickinson – Vincent Desharnais

We’re projecting Yaroslav Askarov to start in net, backed up by Alex Nedeljkovic. Their projected extras are Jeff Skinner and Vincent Iorio. Per San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng, Kiefer Sherwood hasn’t been ruled out for Saturday’s game, so if he slots in obviously their lines will change a bit.
The Sharks are 7-4-1 in 2026 and 3-1-1 over their past five games. This is the third game of their western road trip: they beat Vancouver, then lost in overtime to Edmonton. They led 3-0 after the first period on Thursday at Rogers Place, but ended up losing 4-3 in overtime. That’s sort of how the Sharks are this season: offensively strong enough to put up three on Edmonton in their building early… defensively porous enough to let that lead slip away.
Unavailable players
The Flames are without Sam Honzek, Jake Bean, John Beecher, Zayne Parekh and Blake Coleman.
The Sharks are without Logan Couture, Carey Price, Shakir Mukhamadullin, Philipp Kurashev, Ty Dellandrea and Kiefer Sherwood.
