Flames Game Day 55: A visit from the Maple Leafs (8pm MT, SNW)

The Calgary Flames (22-26-6, 50 points) will continue to wind down their pre-Olympic schedule on Monday evening with their annual visit from their old friends, the Toronto Maple Leafs (25-21-9, 59 points). Both teams snapped lengthy losing streaks with wins on Saturday, and both will be trying to continue that momentum as they near the Olympic break.
Today’s broadcast begins at 8 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
The Flames
Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Connor Zary – Nazem Kadri – Joel Farabee
Jonathan Huberdeau – Morgan Frost – Matvei Gridin
Yegor Sharangovich – Mikael Backlund – Matt Coronato
Ryan Lomberg – Martin Pospisil – Adam Klapka

Via our pal Pat Steinberg from Sportsnet: Dustin Wolf starts again, backed up by Devin Cooley – ending the goalie rotation from the past 10 games. The projected extras look to be Justin Kirkland, Hunter Brzustewicz and Brayden Pachal. Zayne Parekh joins the lineup for the first time since Nov. 7.
The Flames won 3-2 on Saturday, increasing their collective goal output in six games without Rasmus Andersson to 10. They’re 1-3-2 since the trade. They remain well back of San Jose for the last playoff spot but also fairly well ahead of Vancouver for 32nd overall (and the best draft lottery odds).
Y’know who was great on Saturday? Morgan Frost. He showed flashes of the player he can be, scoring a goal, setting up Matvei Gridin’s goal, and generally moving around really well on the ice. We’ll see if he keeps this going.
The Maple Leafs
Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Bobby McMann – Auston Matthews – Max Domi
Matias Maccelli – John Tavares – William Nylander
Matthew Knies – Nicolas Roy – Nicholas Robertson
Steven Lorentz – Scott Laughton – Calle Jarnkrok

Jake McCabe – Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Morgan Rielly – Brandon Carlo

We’re projecting Joseph Woll to start in net, backed up by Anthony Stolarz. Their projected extra skaters are Easton Cowan, Simon Benoit and Philippe Myers.
The Maple Leafs battled back from two deficits on Saturday night to beat the 32nd-ranked Canucks in a shootout, snapping a six game losing streak (0-5-1). It’s safe to say that things have not gone as planned in Toronto, with injuries, inconsistency and a Mitch Marner sized hole in their lineup causing a lot of challenges so far.
Unavailable players
The Flames are without Sam Honzek, Jake Bean, John Beecher and Blake Coleman.
The Maple Leafs are without Chris Tanev and Dakota Joshua.
