Flames Game Day 57: Back in action against the Sharks (8pm MT, SN1)

After three weeks off, the Calgary Flames (23-27-6, 52 points) are back in action and kick off a stretch of three games in four nights when they visit the San Jose Sharks (27-24-4, 58 points). Can the Flames continue their momentum from before the break? Or will they get devoured by a young and hungry Sharks squad?
Today’s broadcast begins at 8 p.m. MT on Sportsnet One and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
The Flames

Via Sportsnet’s Derek Wills, it was an optional morning skate in San Jose but Dustin Wolf was in the starter’s net, which means he’ll likely be backed up by Devin Cooley. The projected extras look to be Brayden Pachal and Martin Pospisil based on recent practices, but we’ll see how things look during warm-up. Back in the lineup after some time off due to injuries are John Beecher (who missed 15 games) and Blake Coleman (who missed 12 games).
The Flames won two of three games before the Olympics, generally playing pretty well in that stretch. They’ve been streaky this season and they’ve generally struggled on the road. They’re probably not going to play in the playoffs; it seems improbable for them to make up 12 points in the standings. But they want to make the final 26 games useful in terms of evaluation and development.
That might mean a few long nights from here on out.
The Sharks
Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Will Smith- Macklin Celebrini – Kiefer Sherwood
William Eklund – Michael Misa – Tyler Toffoli
Philipp Kurashev – Alexander Wennberg – Collin Graf
Barclay Goodrow – Zack Ostapchuk – Ryan Reaves

Mario Ferraro – Timothy Liljegren
Dmitry Orlov – John Klingberg
Sam Dickinson – Vincent Desharnais

Per San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng, sounds like Yaroslav Askarov starts in net, backed up by Alex Nedeljkovic. The projected extra skaters are Adam Gaudette, Pavol Regenda and Shakir Mukhamadullin.
The Sharks are five points back of the final playoff spot. They’re not a powerhouse and they’ve gotten in their own way with turnovers and discipline challenges at times. But they have a lot of fun youngsters on their team, and Macklin Celebrini in particular is coming off a strong Olympics.
Unavailable players
The Flames are without Sam Honzek, Jake Bean and Jonathan Huberdeau.
The Sharks are without Logan Couture, Carey Price and Ty Dellandrea.
