The Calgary Flames (24-27-6, 54 points) continue their quick California road trip on Saturday night when they visit the Los Angeles Kings (23-21-14, 60 points). The Flames and Kings both returned from the Olympic break on Thursday evening, with Calgary winning on the road and Los Angeles losing at home. Will those trends continue, or will momentum change?
Today’s broadcast begins at 5 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

The Flames

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Connor Zary – Nazem Kadri – Joel Farabee
Blake Coleman – Morgan Frost – Matvei Gridin
Yegor Sharangovich – Mikael Backlund – Matt Coronato
Martin Pospisil – John Beecher – Adam Klapka
Yan Kuznetsov – Zach Whitecloud
Kevin Bahl – MacKenzie Weegar
Joel Hanley – Zayne Parekh
The Flames don’t have a morning skate because of the early start, so we’re making some educated guesses. It’s a back-to-back, so we’re anticipating Dustin Wolf to start in the front half, with Devin Cooley getting the net on Sunday in Anaheim. The projected extras are Brayden Pachal and Ryan Lomberg.
The Flames had a good night on Thursday. They got strong goaltending, which always helps. They got timely goals. Their penalty kill was good. All-in-all, they were very much deserving of a positive result against the Sharks. It’s entirely likely that the roster may get hollowed out a bit by trades in the next week, so it’s probably worth enjoying the good evenings as they pass.

The Kings

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Artemi Panarin – Alex Laferriere – Adrian Kempe
Warren Foegele – Anze Kopitar – Corey Perry
Trevor Moore – Quinton Byfield – Joel Armia
Jeff Malott – Alex Turcotte – Taylor Ward
Mikey Anderson – Drew Doughty
Joel Edmundson – Brandt Clarke
Brian Dumoulin – Cody Ceci
We’re projecting Darcy Kuemper to start in net, backed up by Anton Forsberg. The projected extras are Samuel Helenius and Jacob Moverare.
The Kings had a bad night on Thursday. They were, to be blunt, clobbered by the Oilers. Remember the Kings that faced the Oilers in the post-season the past few seasons? Well, this is very much not that group, and the Kings have looked a bit lost at times this season. The Kings desperately need to get some traction, and fast, if they want any hope of returning to the post-season.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Sam Honzek, Jake Bean and Jonathan Huberdeau.
The Kings are without Kevin Fiala and Andrei Kuzmenko.

Head to head

This is the second of four games this season between these two teams. The Flames beat the Kings in overtime in Los Angeles back in December. They’ll meet twice more in Calgary: once on Mar. 24 and once on Apr. 16.
