For the final time, the Calgary Flames will be playing their eighth pre-season contest of the fall, closing out the final marathon exhibition schedule against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Flames and Jets have both more or less settled on their NHL groups, though the Jets have a few more bodies on hand and a few more decisions to make. It’s the final dress rehearsal before the games start counting for real, and the Flames are hoping to bounce back from a dreadful showing on Wednesday against Vancouver.
Things get going just after 7 p.m. MT, with the Flames’ website and app streaming video coverage of the game and the folks at Sportsnet 960 The Fan carrying things on the radio.

The Flames

Here’s our anticipated lines, extrapolating from Pat Steinberg’s reporting of lines on Thursday (and taking into account reported absences):
Farabee-Kadri-Klapka
Gridin-Frost-Coronato
Zary-Backlund-Coleman
Lomberg-Kirkland-Sharangovich
Hanley-Weegar
Bahl-Andersson
Bean-Parekh
Dustin Wolf is expected to start in net, backed up by Devin Cooley. We wouldn’t expect to see Jonathan Huberdeau in action after his collision with Vancouver netminder Kevin Lankinen late in Wednesday’s game. On Thursday, head coach Ryan Huska dubbed Huberdeau “day to day.”

The Jets

Via Mike McIntyre, projected lines:
Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi
Nyquist-Namestnikov-Perfetti
Niederreiter-Barron-Iafallo
Koepke-Ford-Pearson
Morrissey-DeMelo
Stanley-Pionk
Fleury-Schenn
Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start in net, backed up by Eric Comrie. It’s pretty much the opening night roster for the Jets, gang. Jonathan Toews tweaked something in the Jets’ Tuesday game and it doesn’t seem like he’ll be playing – we’re no Jets experts, so we’re unsure if it’ll be something that impacts the start of the season yet.
If you’re the Flames and hoping for an iron-sharpens-iron type of final pre-season game, this roster seems well-suited for that type of test.
