Flames prospect Matt Coronato invited to USA Hockey World Junior camp

One of the Calgary Flames’ top prospects will get another chance to represent his country at the 2022 World Junior Championship… again. Matt Coronato has been invited to USA Hockey’s World Junior evaluation camp at the end of July.
Coronato was originally named to the United States’ entry at the World Juniors back in December, but the tournament was scuttled after just a few days. Well, they’re re-doing the tournament in August in Edmonton and Coronato will be eligible to represent his country. Again. (He’ll be too old to participate in the 2023 tournament in the winter.)
Coronato was the Flames’ first round selection in the 2021 NHL Draft. He had a very good freshman season at Harvard University, really growing into a two-way role throughout the season. He took a big step when his veteran teammates headed to the Olympics in February, and he ended up leading the Crimson to a conference tournament crown and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. He ended his season with 36 points in 34 games, among the best offensive output from the NCAA’s freshmen.
The 2022 World Juniors take place in Edmonton from Aug. 9-20.
