Friends, it’s time once again to do that hockey.

The Calgary Flames will welcome the Edmonton Oilers to the historic Scotiabank Saddledome for a prospects clash, entitled the NextGen Showcase! The game is intended to be the centrepiece of each club’s prospects training camp, and you can imagine players on both sides of the ice will be looking to make an impression on their respective club’s management and coaching staff.

The game begins at 6 p.m. MT! You can catch the game streamed on the Flames website and app! Tickets are still available at Ticketmaster for $10.

The Flames

Based on practices and reporting on morning skate from QR Calgary’s Pat Steinberg, here’s how we expect the Flames to look:

Matvei Gridin – Tyson Gross – Aydar Suniev
Simon Katolicky – Riley Boychuk – Joe Iginla
Chase Harrington – Jonathan Castagna – Andrew Basha
Ryder Boulton – Will Dineen – Quinn Olson
Carter Wilkie

Abram Wiebe – Kent Anderson
Axel Hurtig – Jakob Leander
Mace’o Phillips – Bode Laylin

Arsenii Sergeev
Kirill Zarubin

Our projected extras for this game look to be Semyon Konopsky and Owen Say. Via Steinberg, Sergeev will get the first half of the game, with Zarubin getting the second half. They’ll be dressing 13 forwards and seven defenders.

In terms of players to watch… well, dealer’s choice:

Matvei Gridin played 37 NHL games and could legitimately make a run at the Flames’ scoring lead in 2026-27.
Tyson Gross is a local kid who could make the NHL roster as fourth line centre.
Ryder Boulton, long-time NHLer Eric’s kid, is an agitator with a high motor.
Chase Harrington, a 2026 second-rounder, is an agitator with a high skill level.
Joe Iginla, son of the team’s all-time leading scorer, playing his first game in a Flames jersey on Saddledome ice.

It should be a fascinating game from the home perspective.

The Oilers

We don’t have any intel on Oilers’ lines or pairings, but here is their camp roster:

Goalies: Ryan Cameron, Nathaniel Day, Samuel Jonsson and Eemil Vinni
Defencemen: Beau Akey, Zach Bookman, Damien Carfagna, Tomas Cibulka, Kyle Heger, Andrew Robinson and Samuel Sjolund
Forwards: Rudolfs Berzkalns, Weston Cameron, Connor Clattenburg, Caden Harvey, Isaac Howard, Quinn Hutson, David Lewandowski, Viljami Marjala, Owen Michaels, William Nicholl, Rhett Pitlick, Josh Samanski, Simon Tassy and Olli Wahlroos

From a skill standpoint, keep your eyes out for Beau Akey, Isaac Howard, Quinn Hutson and Josh Samanski.

From a fun standpoint, look out for Connor Clattenburg, who always tends to end up in the middle of scrums at these sorts of games.
