The Calgary Flames have officially completed the last lingering item on their to-do list. The club announced that they’ve signed restricted free agent defenseman Oliver Kylington to a one year, two-way deal worth $787,500 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level.
Per the club, the terms were actually what was laid out in Kylington’s qualifying offer. When the deal expires, he’ll be an arbitration eligible RFA.
The 23-year-old Kylington just ended his entry level contract with the Flames after five seasons in their system, a quirk of the CBA based on Kylington signing as an 18-year-old just after the 2015 NHL Draft. He was selected 60th overall in the same round that also produced Rasmus Andersson.
With the deal signed and the waiver-eligible Kylington likely slotted on the Flames NHL roster, the Flames would have a 22-man team and about $223,333 in remaining cap space according to our number-crunching colleagues at PuckPedia.
