Guess who’s back? On Saturday, following the Calgary Flames’ win over the Nashville Predators, the hockey club sent forward Adam Klapka down to the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers. On Tuesday, in advance of their next game with the New York Islanders, the Flames announced that they’ve recalled Klapka from the Wranglers.

Klapka originally made the Flames roster out of training camp. He was assigned to the Wranglers on Oct. 30 after the big club began getting healthy and needed to open up a roster spot for Sam Honzek. Klapka was called back up on Nov. 11, but was a healthy scratch for three games during the following week. This will be his second recall and third run on the NHL roster this season.

Splitting this season so far between the Flames and Wranglers, Klapka has been a top six fixture with the Wranglers and an occasional fourth line player for the Flames. He has zero points in five NHL games and eight points in seven AHL games this season. He had two goals and one assist in two games for the Wranglers against the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda this past weekend.

Originally a free agent signing out of Czechia in 2022, Klapka has emerged as a pretty interesting player in the Flames system. He’s big! He can skate really well for a bigger guy! And while he doesn’t play particularly mean, he uses his size well to create screens and general mayhem in the net-front area. He’s still just 24 years old, so he may still be scratching the surface of what he can become at the pro level.

The Flames are back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Islanders at the Saddledome.
