Flames recall Adam Werner from Stockton to be the third playoff goalie

The Calgary Flames made a roster move on Tuesday in advance of Game 1 against the Dallas Stars. The club has recalled goaltender Adam Werner from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat.
Werner turned 25 yesterday. He’s served as backup to Dustin Wolf in Stockton for basically the entire AHL season. He’s being recalled to serve as the third goalie for the Flames, so that they don’t need to burn out Jacob Markstrom with facing too many shots during practices. Why Werner and not Wolf? Well, Stockton’s in the AHL’s playoffs and Wolf is their undisputed starter. This way the Flames get an extra goalie for practices and Stockton still has their best chance to make a run at a Calder Cup. It serves everyone’s needs.
The Flames now have 25 players on their roster – three goalies, eight defenders and 14 forwards – and have three players on their roster on recalls. They can rotate three call-up bodies up and down from Stockton as they please for as long as the Heat remain active in the playoffs. The Flames’ three goaltenders are Markstrom, Werner and Dan Vladar. Stockton’s three goaltenders are Wolf, Daniil Chechelev and Andrew Shortridge.
