Guess who’s back!
On Wednesday, the Calgary Flames had an off day and sent forwards Jakob Pelletier and Walker Duehr to the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers. (The Wranglers played on Wednesday night and the duo were technically healthy scratches after playing with the NHL club on Tuesday in Nashville.)
On Thursday, the Flames called Pelletier and Duehr back up from the AHL.
Pelletier and Duehr both failed to make the Flames’ NHL roster out of training camp in early October. Duehr cleared waivers on Oct. 3, while Pelletier cleared waivers on Oct. 7. Both began the season with the Wranglers. Both played really well. Playing primarily on the top line (with Rory Kerins and Dryden Hunt), Pelletier had three goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 20 games. Playing primarily on the second line (with William Strömgren and Sam Morton), Duehr had 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 20 games.
Both were originally called up from the Wranglers on Dec. 2. Both have played in four NHL games this season and been on the NHL roster for nine days. (Duehr has one assist, Pelletier has a goal and an assist.) Both remain waiver exempt until they’ve played in 10 NHL games or have spent 30 days on the NHL roster, whichever comes first. Both were sent down on Wednesday primarily to extend their waiver exemption window.
The Flames return to action on Thursday when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
