The Calgary Flames have made their fourth selection of the 2025 NHL Draft. At 80th overall, the Flames have selected defenceman Mace’o Phillips from the United States National Development Program’s Under-18 Team.
A product of Wayzata, Minnesota, Phillips is a left shot blueliner listed at 6’6″ and 233 pounds. He’s a February 2007 birthday. He had six points in 60 games with the USNDP in 2024-25. He also represented the United States at the Under-18 Worlds, where he was a teammate with first-rounder Cullen Potter, capturing bronze.
He’s committed to the University of Minnesota for 2026-27. Per Flames head amateur scout Tod Button, Phillips will spent 2025-26 either with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks or the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers.
He was the 61st-ranked North American skater by the NHL’s Central Scouting Service. He was ranked 76th by Daily Faceoff and 181st by FC Hockey.
Here’s what Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis had to say in his rankings:
Phillips is a massive, 6-foot-5, 214-pound defender who uses every bit of his frame to push guys around and poke pucks away. He’s strong and always seems to be looking to land at least one big hit a game. He skates well, too, making him a solid option for teams chasing size and decent mobility. Guys like this can make for solid third-pairing options down the line.
So far, the Flames have made four selections, taking three centres and a blueliner.
The Flames have three picks remaining in the 2025 NHL Draft.
