Flames select Jake Boltmann at 80th overall

The Calgary Flames have made another selection at the 2020 NHL Draft. In the third round, at 80th overall, the Flames have selected defenseman Jake Boltmann from Minnesota’s high school circuit.
A Minnesota kid, Boltmann is a right shot defender listed at 6’1″ and 187 pounds. He’s played the past four season at Edina High School – the same place Demetrios Koumontzis went to high school – and he spent the last season as Edina’s captain. He’s also played some USHL games the past three seasons split between Central Illinois and Lincoln, amassing 10 points in 29 games.
Here’s a scouting report from Raw Charge:
On Boltmann the player, from the limited amount of video I was able to find on him, he is a defenseman that likes to jump up into the rush a lot. This indicates to me that he both wants to be a leader on the ice and go where the puck is offensively, but also that he’s probably playing at a level too low for his skillset right now in Minnesota high school. On the good side, he’s already committed to Minnesota of the NCAA, which will be a great place to develop for up to four years.
Boltmann was the 113th ranked North American skater by Central Scouting. He’s committed to the University of Minnesota for 2021-22 and will be playing with the USHL’s Lincoln Stars this season.
