The Calgary Flames have made their sixth selection of the 2025 NHL Draft. At 176th overall, the Flames have selected right wing Aiden Lane from St. Andrews College prep school in Ontario.
Lane is a right shot forward listed at 6’1″ and 193 pounds, and he’s a February 2007 birthday. The product of Mississauga, Ontario played kind of all over the place this past season. He started the season in prep school, playing 55 games for St. Andrews College and posting 34 goals and 52 assists for 86 points. He also played a pair of games with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, and closed things out with 13 games with the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads, where he was teammates with Flames prospect Luke Misa, and put up 13 points. Lane is committed to Harvard University for the 2025-26 season.
He was the 112th-ranked North American skater from the NHL’s Central Scouting Service. He was ranked 82nd by Daily Faceoff.
Here’s what Steven Ellis at Daily Faceoff wrote about Lane in his rankings:
Lane was one of the biggest movers this year after starting the season playing prep hockey. He spent time in the USHL as well before finishing the season with the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads – a move that might pay off. Lane is a highly skilled forward who put up great numbers at every level, but wasn’t getting a ton of high-end attention in the PHC with St. Andrew’s despite putting up incredible numbers. Once the NCAA allowed CHLers to commit, the future Harvard University forward jumped to the Steelheads and finished the regular season with 13 points in 13 games. That definitely helped Lane’s draft stock, showing what he could do with his bulky frame and quick hands. The biggest knock against Lane right now is his weak skating – he’s not quick and gets up to speed way too slowly. If he can fix that, there’s a chance Lane could become a middle-six winger.
The Flames have one pick remaining in the 2025 NHL Draft.
