The Calgary Flames have added some organizational depth at forward. The club has signed centre Ben Jones to a one-year, two-way deal worth $750,000 at the NHL level.
Jones, 23, was a seventh-round selection by Vegas in 2017. He just finished his entry-level deal but was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Golden Knights.
The left shot centre is an OHL product who played with the Niagara IceDogs for four seasons. He played two games with the NHL club last season, but he was a really reliable player for their AHL club in Henderson last season, putting up 25 goals and 41 points in 66 games.
He probably won’t factor into the Flames’ roster at the NHL given their depth at that position, but for an AHL system that’s lost some reliable goal-scorers this off-season like Luke Philp, Justin Kirkland and Glenn Gawdin, adding Jones is a savvy move that gives the team some useful depth
