Report: Flames Sign Jon Gillies To ELC

Ending the least contentious time in Calgary Flames history, the Flames have reportedly signed 2012 draft pick (and NCAA superstar) goalie Jon Gillies.
The entry-level deal is for three years, based on the CBA and Gillies’ age, and will likely kick in next season. UPDATE: Gillies has reported to the big league club, so presumably his deal has already started to run.
Gillies, 21, is a damn good goalie. He was drafted by the Flames in the third round of the 2012 Draft. Since then?
- He’s represented Team USA in back-to-back World Juniors, winning gold as a back-up in 2013.
- He was an NCAA All-American (Second Team) in 2012-13 (this year’s haven’t been announced yet)
- He was Hockey East Rookie of the Year in 2012-13.
- He was Hockey East Goalie of the Year in 2014-15.
- He was a conference first-team all-star in 2012-13 and 2014-15.
- He was most valuable player in the Frozen Four tournament last week, and helped his team win the championship.
- Basically, outside of an injury-hampered 2013-14 season, he was arguably the best goalie in college hockey for his entire tenure.
Gillies leaves the NCAA with an impeccable record; 60-34-13 (his last win got them a championship), with a 2.08 goals against average and .931 save percentage over 108 appearances.
