The Calgary Flames have inked one of their top picks in the 2020 NHL Draft. Defenseman Yan Kuznetsov has been signed to a three year entry level deal starting this season.
Kuznetsov, 19, just finished his sophomore year at the University of Connecticut, where he had six points in 16 NCAA games. He also played at the World Juniors, representing Russia. He’s a defensive-minded left shot defenseman. The Flames drafted him 50th overall in last fall’s NHL Draft.
Kuznetsov is expected to be reporting to Stockton soon. His deal begins this season, but the first year will slide to 2021-22 unless he plays seven NHL games this season.
The Flames get a very promising two-way defender under contract.
