Flames Take Hunter Smith at 54th Overall

The Calgary Flames have completed their second round picks, taking Oshawa Generals forward Hunter Smith with their 54th overall pick. (He’s the mean-looking dude with the beard in the background, FYI.)
Smith’s big, and he’s mean. He also went through the entire 2013 Draft without being picked because he couldn’t score worth a lick and was super-young (his September 11, 1995 birthday was 4 days prior to the cut-off). But he’s a year older and had 40 points and 100 PIMs in 64 games last year.
Well, he does help Calgary with their “not particularly big” problem. 40 points as an 18-year-old in 64 games isn’t bad, and he was nearly point-per-game in the playoffs, so he really turned his game around after putting up a single point in 30 games (as a YOUNG 17-year-old) in his draft-eligible season. But his size gives me concerns about his mobility (6’7″, 210), but I never saw him play, so I can only speculate.
Hockey Prospects had him at 54 and Future Considerations had him at 93. Lots of variation.
Shrug.
