Flames Trade For Dougie Hamilton’s Brother (Freddie)

The Calgary Flames made a minor move today, consummating a trade with the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Freddie Hamilton.
That’s right. The Flames traded for Dougie Hamilton’s big brother. A conditional 2016 seventh round pick goes the other way. He’s been assigned straight to Stockton.
A fifth round pick of the San Jose Sharks back in 2010, Hamilton has yo-yoed between the NHL and the AHL over the past few years. He’s emerged as a pretty solid AHL-level player (he generates about half a point per game), but he’s failed to really get a foot-hold on an NHL roster spot. He played 12 games with the Sharks, then was traded to the Avalanche last March and played 17 games.
Overall, he has played 27 NHL games and has a single goal to his credit through his entire three-year entry-level contract. It’s an AHL depth move, primarily, and gives them another right-handed shot that can score at the AHL level.
But hey, Dougie Hamilton’s big brother.
