Flames trade rumours: Nazem Kadri would be ‘willing to listen’ to opportunity to go to contender

Friends, two things can be true at once.
First, the Calgary Flames aren’t having the season they envisioned. Following their 4-1 loss to Boston on Thursday night, they’re nestled snugly in 30th place in the overall standings. They’re roughly eight points out of a playoff spot.
Second, the Flames have several very good players on their roster that are drawing quite a bit of trade interest. We’ve discussed the situation of pending unrestricted free agent (and 2026 Olympian) Rasmus Andersson quite a bit, as well as two-time Stanley Cup winner Blake Coleman.
But on Thursday’s edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Darren Dreger highlighted the situation of veteran centre, and recent Stanley Cup winner, Nazem Kadri:
“My sense with Nazem Kadri is this: that if an opportunity was presented to go to a top contender in the NHL, then he’d be willing to listen to that. I mean, the man is 35 years old and he wants to win a Stanley Cup. Now he’s not going to push it. And we know that the Calgary Flames have other pieces probably are drawing more of the attention from Craig Conroy’s perspective, but the intensity around Kadri is definitely heating up.”
Kadri joined the Flames in free agency in 2022, right after winning a Stanley Cup, and he’s in the fourth season of a seven year deal with a $7 million cap hit. In addition to being a recent Cup winner, Kadri is the Flames’ leading scorer, with 32 points through 44 games. He’s a physical, savvy offensive player, and you could imagine him slotting in really nice as the second line centre on a deep team with Stanley Cup aspirations.
That said, Kadri’s deal has a 13 team no-trade list, and he’s somebody that the Flames really like and value highly as part of their leadership group. They’re probably in no hurry to nudge him out the door. But if some team makes them a hefty offer, it could become too tempting to ignore.
