Do you think Conroy is as in touch with other GMs and trade winds as Tre was? He comes across as a very friendly guy and as very easy to talk to.

FlamesNation Mailbag: talking contracts, trades, and contingency plans

The Calgary Flames will begin prospect camp in three weeks. In about a month, training camp begins for their veterans. Summer will not last forever.
As we enjoy the waning days of summer, let’s check back in with the mailbag!
I suspect Craig Conroy does the job a bit differently than Brad Treliving did – every GM puts their own spin on the job – but hockey’s a really small world and Conroy knows basically everybody from either his playing days or his time in Flames management. He’s both pretty chatty, and pretty plugged into what’s going on.
Do you think the Flames should just give Zary his asking price? Especially if he’s getting a bridge deal
What is Conroy's contingency plan if Zary holds out during training camp and the beginning of the season?
Disclaimer: I like Connor Zary as a player. He’s good!
But it’s not quite clear how good, nor what his role should be on the Flames going forward. So if it’s up to me, I probably want him on a one or two year deal so he can put together a body of work that basically forces the Flames to throw silly money at him. Heck, the Flames would probably love to sign him to a deal that looks like Matt Coronato’s… once his play commands that sort of a deal.
He’s not there yet. And with the Flames chock full of young forwards that they’ll need to pay coming out of their entry-level deals over the next few years, it really doesn’t make much sense to pay Zary more than his numbers dictate just to get him signed. They have cap space now, but any deals they sign now will be used against them in the future when they have much less space. It pays to be smart about things now.
If Zary wants to cash in on a strong season, he needs to have a full season. I really don’t think holding out would be in anyone’s best interests.
I think Anaheim would want a lot, and I’m not sure if there would be a fit. I don’t think the Flames would want to move the types of assets it would take, especially in-division, and the Flames would also need to be very, very sure that McTavish is the missing piece of their puzzle.
If you call Craig Conroy and ask about Zayne Parekh, unless you’re offering a can’t miss, high-end centre prospect – Parekh, but a centre, which might not exist – I don’t think the conversation lasts very long.
Any indication if we'll see Rasmus at training camp with a trade possibly closer to the trade deadline? Has Conroy said anything about this recently? #Flames
All seems quiet on the Rasmus Andersson front right now. Perhaps things will change as we get closer to the fall and teams start getting organized for training camps.
