Hi Ryan, with Markstrom now inked for 6 years, where does that leave Rittich? Do you think he’s still part of the flames future plans? Thanks

Defensive pairings thoughts? Hanafin with Andersen,Valamaki with Tanev, and Gio with Kylington. Let Gio mentor Kylington like he did Brodie?
- Mark Giordano & Rasmus Andersson
- Noah Hanifin & Chris Tanev
- Juuso Valimaki & either Oliver Kylington, Alex Petrovic, or a cheap right shot UFA they haven’t signed yet
Does the two year contract window for Gaudreau,Tkachuk & Giordano increase any urgency to make a big splash for a serious run in the postseason for the Flames?
How does adding Markstrom & to a lesser extent Tanev, change any plans for the future of the core/roster construction in the next 2-3 years?
- Johnny Gaudreau ($6.75 million) – UFA
- Matthew Tkachuk ($7 million) – RFA
- Andrew Mangiapane ($2.425 million) – RFA
- Mark Giordano ($6.75 million) – UFA
Odds that Monahan and Gaudreau are Flames when the next season starts? Above or below 50%?
- 2020-21: 90% odds that both are on the roster
- 2021-22: 50% odds that both are on the roster
There is lots of talk about the #Flames still needing to shake up their top 6 this offseason. With virtually no cap room though, adding through FA is not an option unless they clear cap room first. If the Flames are now looking at a hockey deal, who are possible trade partners?
What are the odds that they sign Duclair? Would love that move.
Do you think would like a do-over on the Tanev signing? Seems like patience was a more prudent move. The cap space would have had plenty of teams calling him. Similar to the Vegas & Van type deals opening up soon I bet.
Why Tanev over Brodie?
- The Flames were focused on re-signing Jacob Markstrom as their top priority, so Brodie’s camp when looking at their other options.
- By the time the Flames were done with Markstrom, Brodie had signed with Toronto for a $350,000 raise. Given the Flames’ cap situation, it’s difficult to see how they would’ve fit Brodie (at a $5 million cap hit) and so Tanev fit their cap situation better.
