The 2021 World Juniors are complete and Dustin Wolf is a gold medalist. Many other propects are less happy, but three Flames prospects left Edmonton with medals.

Sweden’s junior circuit is still off the ice, with restart plans still not announced by Swedish Ice Hockey Association. In the interim, Feuk remains with AIK’s pro outfit. He dressed for two games but played zero shifts.

Kuznetsov went back to school after capturing zero medals at the World Juniors. He played zero shifts in the bronze medal game after playing 17:37 in the semis, serving as the seventh man in the loss. He’s headed back to school and could play this week.
He’s only 18, so he’s a good bet to play in next year’s World Juniors.

The VHL was off this week, so Nikolayev was loaned to the junior MHL to get some games in. He played four games, between 16 and 21 minutes per game. He won 56% of his draws and earned an assist, too.

Pelletier had a damn good World Junior tournament overall, playing an energy role and racking up seven points. He was on the ice for both of the USA’s goals in the gold medal game, though. But a silver medal isn’t a bad consolation prize after he missed last year’s selection camp due to a concussion.
He’s off to Flames camp, then will return to the QMJHL when their bubble schedule resumes in late January.

Solovyov seems to have found his mojo again for Dynamo Minsk. He’s been playing second pairing minutes (17+ per night) lately and had two assists in one game. Minsk won both games this week, too.

Sveningsson played a lot over three games, with second line minutes in one game and first line minutes in the other two. It’s obvious based on his usage that MODO’s coaches like what he does. But he just cannot seem to translate these habits into points. At this point, it would be a bit of a long-shot for the Flames to sign him – there are a lot of players who need playing time in their system and it’s not clear how Sveningsson would fit in.

Zary got a silver medal from the World Juniors, where he played mostly a complimentary role.

Wolf was the backup for his second consecutive World Juniors, playing behind Spencer Knight. He captured a gold medal, though. He’s off to Flames training camp.
