FlamesNation prospect update: early days

Photo credit: Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports
It’s finally hockey season, friends. We’re in the early days of the calendar and right now European leagues are beginning their regular seasons, but camps are getting underway basically everywhere else.
With that in mind, let’s check on the Flames’ prospects!
This and that:
- Rookie camp is underway, so most of the prospects of note are in Calgary.
- Lucas Feuk begins the regular season with Västerviks IK in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan on Friday.
- Arsenii Sergeev begins the regular season with Tri-City in the United States Hockey League on Thursday. Ilya Nikolaev attended Flames rookie camp, but is expected to be assigned to the USHL soon.
- The Canadian major junior regular season begins Oct. 1. Expect most of the Flames’ junior prospects to be returned to their club teams around that time. (For the curious, that would include Jack Beck of OHL Ottawa, Lucas Ciona of WHL Seattle, Ryan Francis and Jeremie Poirier of QMJHL Saint John, Cole Huckins of QMJHL Acadie-Bathurst, Cole Jordan of WHL Moose Jaw, Rory Kerins of OHL Sault Ste. Marie and Cameron Whynot of QMJHL Halifax.)
Emil Heineman – LW, Leksands IF, SHL

While technically eligible for junior hockey in Sweden (he turns 20 in November), Heineman has landed a gig on the third line for Leksands, playing alongside Nils Åman and Max Veronneau. He has no points thus far, but it’s quite early in the season.
William Strömgren – LW, Rögle BK, J20 Nationell

Strömgren was aiming for a spot with Rögle’s pro team in the SHL, but the pro club was carrying quite a few veteran forwards and he slid back into the J20 junior league… for now. He’s playing quite well on the second line with Linus Sjödin and Kevin Engvall. He’s shooting just 5.6% personally, so he seems bound to have an offensive outburst soon.
