Flu bug puts Flames lineup in flux for Monday afternoon

The Calgary Flames will be wearing their retro white sweaters on Monday afternoon against the Anaheim Ducks. That basically is the extent of our knowledge of the Flames’ lineup, as a flu bug running through the locker room has a lot of things up in the air.
After using both David Rittich and Cam Talbot against Chicago, the goaltender hadn’t been decided as of early Sunday afternoon.
With both Derek Ryan and Mikael Backlund absent due to the flu bug that’s going through the Flames locker room, there was also uncertainty about whether either player would be available on Monday. If one or both of them can’t play against Anaheim, they’d be missing two reliable two-way centers who are a big part of their penalty kill.
Flames interim head coach Geoff Ward suggested that if both are absent, they may need to call someone up from Stockton to fill in the gaps. (That would probably be Alan Quine, who’s played with the Flames earlier this season and could step into a situation where he wouldn’t get practice time to get used to a role.) If someone needs to be called up, likely we’d see Buddy Robinson floated back down to the AHL in order to facilitate the other roster move.
We’ll have more updates as they become available.
