Friedman broke down the Calle Jarnkrok trade in 32 Thoughts

The Calgary Flames made a big splash prior to the trade deadline, swapping three draft picks to Seattle for Calle Jarnkrok. Over at Sportsnet, Elliotte Friedman laid out how the deal came together in his 32 Thoughts column.
Calgary outmuscled the likes of Los Angeles and Washington for Calle Järnkrok, a versatile forward option. The trade was modelled after previous Viktor Arvidsson (Nashville to the Kings) and Mattias Janmark (Chicago to Vegas) trades, for second- and third-round picks. (The seventh-rounder going to Seattle is for the salary retention.)Järnkrok isn’t fast, but he’s smart and won’t have trouble fitting in on a chemistry-strong Calgary team.
Arvidsson was traded on July 1, 2021 for a 2021 2nd-rounder and a 2022 3rd-rounder, while Janmark was part of a three-team swap on April 12, 2021 (the 2021 trade deadline) with Chicago receiving a 2021 2nd-rounder and 2022 3rd-rounder (and 5th-rounders also moving around as part of the salary retention).
The Kings were reportedly also in on Tyler Toffoli last month, so this makes Brad Treliving two-for-two on beating out Rob Blake’s crew for a right shot forward.
The 2022 NHL trade deadline is Mon., Mar. 21 at 1 p.m. MT.
