Less than a week after getting a new team, Calgary Flames top prospect Jakob Pelletier has a new letter on his chest. The Val-d’Or Foreurs announced Thursday that Pelletier will serve as the club’s captain for the 2020-21 season.
Pelletier’s heading into his 19-year-old season in the QMJHL and he’ll either be playing in the NHL for the Flames in 2020-21 or in the Q with the Foreurs. He’s not eligible to play in the AHL until 2021-22. He was the Flames’ first round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Pelletier previously served as an alternate captain for Moncton in 2018-19 and as team captain in 2019-20. He was named the QMJHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player and was one of the Q’s leading scorers. Provided the international hockey calendar unfolds as expected, which is no guarantee, Pelletier will be in the mix for a spot on Team Canada at the upcoming World Juniors.
In summation: Pelletier has put together a very nice junior career and seems well-positioned to add to that success in 2020-21 with Val-d’Or.
