Jordan Oesterle clears waivers, sent to AHL by Flames; Nick DeSimone recalled from the Wranglers

The Calgary Flames have made their second roster swap of the day, announcing on Friday that they’ve assigned defenceman Jordan Oesterle to the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers and recalled defenceman Nick DeSimone from the Wranglers.
Oesterle cleared waivers on Friday. A 31-year-old left shot defender that signed as a free agent this past summer, he’s only played four times in the Flames’ first 10 games and just didn’t seem to completely click within the Flames system. A spectator six times so far this season, he’ll head down to the Wranglers and give a defensive group missing Jeremie Poirier a nice boost offensively.
DeSimone cleared waivers back on Oct. 5, and he can spend 30 days cumulatively on the NHL roster before he requires waivers again – so he’s able to go back and forth freely until then. DeSimone is a 28-year-old right shot defender who found a really nice chemistry with Ilya Solovyov on the Wranglers’ shutdown pairing last season. DeSimone played four games with the Flames last season, his first NHL action in his career, and was generally quite solid. He’ll probably start as the Flames’ seventh defender, but we’ll see what happens.
The Flames remain at their 23 player roster limit on their active roster: two goaltenders, seven defenders and 14 forwards – including the injured but still “active” Adam Ruzicka.
The Flames are back in action on Saturday night when they visit the Seattle Kraken.
