Lanny McDonald is a lot of things. He’s a Stanley Cup champion. He’s a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee. He’s a valued member of the Calgary Flames alumni. Heck, he’s a Calgary icon. And he’s also a pretty damn good golfer.
McDonald shot a hole-in-one at the season-opening Flames Foundation golf tournament on Wednesday.
A product of scenic Hanna, Alberta, McDonald joined the Flames organization via a trade with the Colorado Rockies in November 1981 and became one of the team’s most important players.
  • He set a single-season goal-scoring record in the 1982-83 season, scoring 66 goals in 80 games.
  • He scored the first Flames goal in the Saddledome on Oct. 15, 1983.
  • He served as co-captain of the Flames from 1983 to 1989.
McDonald’s final goal was scored in his final game, Game 6 of the 1989 Stanley Cup Final, the game that clinched the championship for the Flames. He retired near the end of the 1989 off-season and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.
And now, McDonald has another impressive achievement on his sterling resume.
