The Calgary Flames franchise has a long, fascinating history. From their origins as an expansion team in Georgia in 1972 to their glory days in the 1980s to present day, the Flames have played a lot of hockey and many players have had tremendous careers wearing the Flaming C (and the Flaming A).
As we prepare for the 2023-24 season, we thought we’d look back at the Flames’ history decade-by-decade. Next up? The topsy-turvy 2010s!

The 200s, at a glance

The Flames went 381-323-84 and earned 846 points over 788 games played during the 2010s. Their points percentage over the decade was 22nd overall in the NHL.
The Flames were all over the place during the 2010s. They missed the playoffs from 2010-14, then again in 2016 and 2018. They had a superb 2018-19 campaign to close out the decade, one of the finest in club history, but they also endured pain in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. They won a single playoff round, a 2015 triumph over the Vancouver Canucks.
The Flames generally had an upward trajectory, finishing the 2010s much stronger than they began them, but they had to go through some prominent growing pains in the process.
