Mangiapane OT heroics send Canada to semi-final clash with United States

When Andrew Mangiapane emerged from his travel quarantine at the 2021 World Championship in Latvia, Team Canada was winless in three games. They’ve since won four of five with Mangiapane in the lineup, punctuated with a 2-1 overtime victory on Thursday over Russia to send them into the semi-finals.
After an Adam Henrique power play goal forced overtime, Mangiapane and Troy Stecher engaged in a nice give-and-go passing play in overtime that gave Mangiapane a back door goal at the far post to end Russia’s tournament and give Canada a 2-1 victory.
Through five games, Mangiapane has five goals and nine points. He’s sixth in the tournament in scoring through the quarterfinal games, trailing linemates Adam Henrique and Connor Brown, Slovakia’s Peter Cehlarik, USA’s Connor Garland and Great Britain’s Liam Kirk. All five of those players have played between two and three more games than Mangiapane has.
Next up for Canada? Mangiapane and company will clash with his Calgary Flames teammate Connor Mackey and the United States on Saturday, with the winner facing the winner of Finland and Germany in Sunday’s gold medal match.
