The captain of the Calgary Flames hit a big milestone on Sunday night. When his point shot was deflected by Joakim Nordstrom past Michael Hutchinson in the first period against Toronto, Mark Giordano registered his 500th NHL point.
Giordano’s the fifth undrafted defender in the modern era to hit 500 points (and 12th all-time), joining the likes of Borje Salming, Steve Duchesne, Dan Boyle and Brian Rafalski. (The modern NHL Draft only became a thing in the 1970.)
Mark Giordano with a primary assist on tonight’s game tying goal for his 500th career NHL point. Giordano the ninth player in franchise history to record 500 points. He joins Iginla (1095), Fleury, MacInnis, Nieuwendyk, Suter, Nilsson, Chouinard, and Roberts. #Flames
Giordano joins a select group with 500+ points in Flames franchise history: Jarome Iginla, Theo Fleury, Joe Nieuwendyk, Gary Suter, Kent Nilsson, Guy Chouinard and Gary Roberts.
