One of the Calgary Flames’ most exciting prospects is headed to the World Championships. 2021 first-round pick Matt Coronato has been named to the United States’ roster for the 2023 IIHF men’s World Championships.
The 20-year-old Coronato has had a busy past 10 months:
- He played for the United States at the postponed August edition of the 2022 World Juniors.
- He played much of the 2022-23 college season for Harvard at centre due to some injury absences from his team.
- He was named a Second Team East All-American for his performance as a sophomore with Harvard.
- He signed his entry-level contract with the Flames and made his NHL debut.
And now, he’s headed to his second IIHF tournament in the past year.
Coronato joins Flames teammates Tyler Toffoli, MacKenzie Weegar and Milan Lucic, who’ll represent Canada, at the tournament. The 2023 IIHF men’s World Championships runs May 12-28 in Riga, Latvia and Tampere, Finland.
