Lucic was suspended for roughing (a.k.a. a sucker-punch against) Kole Sherwood during the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He got a double-minor for roughing on the play. Even though he’s been suspended before, Lucic did not qualify as a repeat offender since his last suspension was in 2016.
He’ll miss tonight’s game against the Capitals, as well as Tuesday’s game, when the Flames return from their five-game road trip and face the Arizona Coyotes. The Flames, already with limited options due to the cap constraint, will likely slot in Tobias Rieder, at least for tonight. They’re only other option is to dress Michael Stone and play with seven defenders.
Per CBA terms and his average annual salary, Lucic will forfeit $64,516.12. That money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
