Nazem Kadri scored the best goal of the 2024-25 for the Flames.
In a blowout loss in the middle of December, he jumped over a Tampa Bay Lightning player, regained his footing, and powered the puck home. It was the 63rd goal he scored in a Flames uniform.
Before the 2026 trade deadline, the Flames shipped Kadri back to the Colorado Avalanche to help the rebuild and give Kadri another chance at a Stanley Cup. Days before the trade, Kadri scored his 99th and 100th goal as a Flame, with the latter ranking as our fifth-best Flames’ goal of the season.
With a trip to the NHL draft lottery all but confirmed, there wasn’t much to play for following the Olympic break. The Flames kick-started a Pacific Coast road trip, defeating the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 26th.
Up 2-1 with about eight to play, Kadri dumped in the puck, and Connor Zary was the first on it. The Shark defenceman blindly fired the puck, with Zary getting a piece of it. Kadri picked up the puck in the faceoff dot, faked a shot, got Yaroslav Askarov to bite, and roofed it top shelf for his 12th of the season.
Kadri failed to score, or even pick up a point, in his final four games as a Flame. On Mar. 6, the Flames sent him to the Avalanche for prospect Max Curran, a conditional 2028 first rounder, a 2027conditional second, and Viktor Olofsson.
He finished his season by scoring four goals and nine points in 16 games with the Avalanche. Returning to the playoffs for the first time since he helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 2022, Kadri scored three goals and nine points in 13 games as the Avalanche were swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals.
While the team never found success with Kadri, there’s a strong argument that he was their best player from the start of the 2022-23 season until he was traded.
