The Calgary Flames have been named as a potential fit for defenceman John Klingberg in a trade.

Widely considered to be one of the best free agents of last years class, the hockey world was surprised to see him unsigned heading into late July. It was on the 29th of that month he eventually inked a deal: a one-year pact worth $7-million with the Anaheim Ducks.
It was meant to be a test drive for the player and team with teh understanding that he could be flipped at the deadline. Well, that&#8217;s looking to be more and more the case even with his game in a decline.
On Wednesday, Daily Faceoff&#8217;s Frank Seravalli linked him as a potential fit on the Calgary Flames.
<blockquote>We’re still not convinced that the Flames will be big buyers at the deadline. They’re in the bottom quartile on the man-advantage. And they have the right defense to partner with Klingberg to mask some of his limitations at even-strength. He could be a relatively low-cost addition that could make them consistently dangerous down the stretch.

Given the visible limitations in Klingberg’s game, it’s incredibly hard to envision him fetching Anaheim a first-round pick. The other complicating factor is most contending teams will have to use a third-party broker, which will only increase the acquisition cost by another asset.
Since Klingberg isn’t a strong, physical defender, his return will likely be significantly lower. The Ducks will undoubtedly be asking for a second-round pick, but any team paying that price will likely be basing their decision on name and reputation.

Partnered with the right player and used to quarterback a team’s top power play with stars, Klingberg could add an offensive boost at the deadline. Given his struggles elsewhere, the price should not be a first-round pick, but at this point in the season it only takes one team to get desperate.

<h1>Oilers will be dollar in, dollar out</h1>
North on the QE2, Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland was on TSN&#8217;s Got Yer Back podcast on Wednesday, where he talked about the weeks ahead.
Holland noted that with the team so tight to the salary cap, any trade the Oilers make will likely have to be dollar in, dollar out.
<blockquote>&#8220;Whether it&#8217;s forwards or defense, it&#8217;s my job to be aware of who is available and eventually what the price might be. (Regardless) of names, we&#8217;re dollar in, dollar out, so (if) we start bringing in people with big cap numbers, we&#8217;re going to have to do some real gymnastics here to move people out. When you&#8217;re in a (long-term injury) situation like we are, it&#8217;s much more difficult at the trade deadline. I would like to do something. Am I convinced I will do something? I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;
&#8220;Once (Kailer) Yamamoto comes off LTI and no one else goes on, I&#8217;ve got some real difficult decisions to make. All of our bottom-of-the-roster players are going to be involved in that decision to decide. They all can&#8217;t stay.&#8221;</blockquote>
Yamamoto has been dealing with concussion and neck issues this year, and is eligible to come off the injured reserve on Saturday. There&#8217;s been reports that the Oilers could already have a trade in place to move out Jesse Puljujarvi, so the next few days will be interesting, to say the least.
