Can you believe the 2026-27 season is already two weeks old?
Not a whole lot has been out of the ordinary for Pacific Division teams to begin the season. The teams that were expected to be good have been good, the teams expected to be bad have been bad.
Let’s take a look at what has gone on these first two weeks!
Anaheim Ducks
After upsetting the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2026 postseason, the Anaheim Ducks are off to a 4-1-0 start to begin this season, good for third in the Pacific Division. Ironically, their lone loss came at the hands of the Oilers, but they picked up big wins against the Vegas Golden Knights and Florida Panthers, as well as wins against the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames.
It was a turbulent off-season for the Ducks, specifically for their blue-line, but they’ve allowed just 13 goals this season, tied for fifth-best in the league. They’ll play the Flames on Tuesday, the Boston Bruins on Friday, and then begin an east coast road trip, starting with a game against the New York Rangers on Monday.
Calgary Flames
The Flames were expected to be bad this season, but somehow, a 0-5-0 start doesn’t come close to describing how poorly this season has begun. They’ve been competitive in one game so far this season, falling 4-2 to the Ducks on Saturday. Every other game has been a lack-lustre affair, featuring a pair of 6-1 defeats to the Seattle Kraken, a 4-1 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks, and a 7-3 loss to Nazem Kadri and the Colorado Avalanche.
Through five games, they’re one of just two teams who have yet to reach double-digit goals, managing to find twine just eight times. They’ve also allowed 27 goals, entering this week with a -19 goal differential. Yikes. Only the Flyers have had a worse start, scoring eight goals through seven games, where they are 0-5-2.
This week, the Flames will head on the road to take on the Ducks on Tuesday and the Golden Knights on Thursday. They’ll host the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes, on Sunday.
Edmonton Oilers
The Mike Babcock era has started off well for the Oilers, as they’ve started their season 4-0-1. That lone loss was a 6-5 defeat in overtime to the Canucks, but they responded with a 9-7 victory two days later. Since then, they’ve been stingy defensively, defeating the Kraken 3-1, the Ducks 5-2, and the San Jose Sharks 3-1.
They’ve managed to do this while missing three top six players as well. The Oilers have leaned heavily on their top line, as Connor McDavid leads the league in points, with Evan Bouchard not too far behind him.
This week, they’ll face the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday evening, then play a home-and-home against the Utah Mammoth on Thursday and Saturday.
Los Angeles Kings
The lone surprise in the Pacific Division to begin this season are the Kings, who have begun their season 0-2-2. In their season opener, they fell 8-4 to the Avalanche, then fell 5-4 to the Sharks in overtime, 2-1 in regulation to the Panthers, and 2-1 in overtime to the Golden Knights.
As it stands, the Kings sit seventh in the Pacific Division with just two points, only besting the Flames. Like the Flames, their scoring has been minimal, as their 10 goals are tied for third-least in the league two weeks into the season.
This week, they’ll host the Oilers on Tuesday and the Bruins on Saturday. Three of their next four games are against teams who have a circle for a logo, as they also play the New York Islanders on Oct. 22nd.
San Jose Sharks
It hasn’t been a bad start to the season for the Sharks, especially as Macklin Celebrini has missed two of their five games. They kicked off their season with a pair of overtime wins, defeating the Panthers 4-3, then the Kings 5-4. After a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Stars, the Sharks defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in overtime, before falling 3-1 to the Oilers.
Through five games, they sit fifth in the Pacific Division thanks to their 3-2-0 record. They’ll host the Boston Bruins on Tuesday before kicking off a six-game road trip beginning in Nashville on Thursday, the heading east to take on the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.
Seattle Kraken
The Seattle Kraken have had a solid start, beginning their season 4-2-0. Two of those wins were 6-1 victories over the Flames, but they also defeated the Red Wings 6-3 and Washington Capitals 5-3 in their two most recent games. Their two losses were at the hands of the best Pacific Division teams, falling 6-2 to the Golden Knights and 3-1 to the Oilers.
Through six games, they’re tied with the Ducks for third in the Pacific Division, though the California-based team has played one fewer game than the Kraken. This week, they’ll continue their east coast trip, taking on the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, and Panthers on Saturday.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks have had one of the starts of all-time. They began their season with a 6-5 overtime victory over the Oilers, then fell 9-7 two days later. Facing the Flames in their third game, the Canucks picked up a 4-1 victory, but have lost their last four games, 3-2 to the Golden Knights, 7-2 to the Hurricanes, 4-1 to the New Jersey Devils, and 6-2 to the Rangers.
Those last three losses were on an east coast road trip, which they’ll continue this week. On Thursday, they take on the Islanders, then the Panthers on Thursday and the Lightning on Saturday.
Vegas Golden Knights
Lastly, the Golden Knights sit atop the Pacific Division thanks to a 5-2-0 start, though they’ve played two more games than the Oilers. They kicked off their season with a victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, and after a 4-3 loss to the Ducks, won four straight by defeating the Canucks 3-2, the Kraken 6-2, the Maple Leafs 4-3 (in a shootout) and the Kings 2-1 in overtime. Their most recent game on Monday was a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Wild.
Jack Eichel has led the way, as his 12 points are tied alongside Bouchard for second-most in the league. It’ll be another busy week for the 2023 Stanley Cup champions, as they play a road game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, before returning home to host the Flames on Thursday and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
