Calgary is coming off a 5-3 loss to the visiting Washington Capitals as -120 home chalk on Tuesday, and has now fallen to defeat in two of three overall outings heading into Thursday night’s game at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Panthers at Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report

Tuesday’s defeat extended the run of inconsistency that has been the hallmark of the Flames’ first month of the season. Home victories over Philadelphia and Detroit last week represent the only consecutive wins that Calgary has recorded while compiling a middling 5-5-1 record this season.
The team has also struggled to generate offence while losing two of three, averaging just two goals per game over that stretch. Slow starts have plagued the Flames, who have potted just two total first-period goals over their past nine contests, and have been outscored by an overall 6-2 margin in the first frame during that stretch.
Despite those struggles, the Flames have managed to generate offence in recent home dates, scoring 3.4 goals per game while going 3-1-1 in five dates at the Saddledome. The club has also outscored opponents from the Atlantic Division by a 18-12 margin while posting wins in three of four meetings on home ice, capped by a 5-1 rout of the Detroit Red Wings as -240 chalk at betting sites on October 17.
However, the Flames could be in tough against the resurgent Panthers, who arrive in Calgary pegged as narrow +110 underdogs. Florida is coming off a 4-2 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins as a -135 home favourite on Tuesday night, and has now earned wins in three of four outings. The Panthers have also earned at least a point in seven of eight outings, including a 2-0-2 run over their past four road contests.
The Panthers offence has rediscovered its touch over the team’s past four outings, averaging 4.25 goals per game after scoring more than three goals on just one occasion over their first five contests of the season. Florida shooters have also produced consistently in recent dates with the Flames, averaging four goals per game while taking two of three from Calgary.
