Jets coach Paul Maurice on #Flames Matthew Tkachuk: “I don’t think he came off the bench and said, ‘Hey I’m going to see if I can go stab the back of Mark Scheifele’s leg with my skate.’ I think he got to that point and I think that’s exactly what he did.”

The Winnipeg Jets held a media availability on Sunday morning in advance of their practice to prepare for Game 2 with the Calgary Flames. The Jets? Well, they’re still pretty unhappy about the injury to Mark Scheifele after he got tangled up with Matthew Tkachuk on Saturday night.
Maurice declined to confirm that Scheifele’s injury is a cut, though he, Adam Lowry and Neal Pionk referenced a cut in their comments to the media.
Continued discussions today over Tkachuk-Scheifele hit. Jets officials continue to make their case. Can only imagine that ownership has made a call to the commissioner. For those demanding it, I don’t think there will be a hearing.
A league spokesman confirmed to the Nation Network on Sunday morning that no supplemental discipline hearing for Tkachuk was scheduled.
Under league rules, the NHL can impose supplemental discipline on any play – a penalty isn’t required. But barring new information coming to light, a potentially reckless play by Tkachuk on a very fast sequence – he admittedly was going too fast and crashed into the boards while trying to keep up with Scheifele – seemingly doesn’t meet the NHL’s threshold for supplemental action.
