The 2025 NHL Draft is less than two weeks away! The big event takes place on June 27 & 28, with the Calgary Flames selecting twice in the first round. After following the draft is the annual NHL free agency period.
Suffice it to say, we’re entering a period hectic period for the Flames. In advance of all the chaos, Flames general manager Craig Conroy sat down with Ryan Pinder and Dean “Boomer” Molberg of the Barn Burner podcast to catch up on all things Flames.
The interview covers a lot. Among the topics they hit:
  • Matt Coronato’s long-term deal (and what it means for the club).
  • Yes, they asked about a potential extension for Dustin Wolf.
  • A new contract for head coach Ryan Huska (and the importance of coaching continuity).
  • Sam Bennett’s emergence as a playoff beast in Florida and mistakes made with Bennett’s development in Calgary.
  • Rasmus Andersson’s future with the Flames and potential ripple effects of that decision.
  • Their potential approach in free agency this year (and how it’s changed from a year ago).
  • The importance of building through the draft.
  • How the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft is shaping up and how the first round could unfold.
We’ll dig into the many, many topics on the site in the coming days, but in the meantime, head on over to the FlamesNation YouTube channel and check the interview out! (And if you haven’t already, subscribe so you can be reminded whenever there’s a new Barn Burner, After Burner or Back Burner on the feed!)
