The Calgary Wranglers and Tucson Roadrunners kicked off their weekend series on Friday night in Tucson, Arizona. This was their first game against each other since Nov. 4. The Roadrunners were in for a bit of a surprise as the team they saw months ago has since evolved into a force in this league. The Wranglers ended up beating the Roadrunners 5-0 and Dustin Wolf added another shutout to his league-leading stats. He now sits at six on the year.

The first half of this game was pretty quiet on the scoring front. The first period ended with no score and the Wranglers out-shooting the Roadrunners 10-7. In the second period, the Wranglers finally lit the lamp starting with Clark Bishop scoring on a one-timer set up by Kevin Rooney. Nick DeSimone also assisted.

Bishop’s goal came 16:47 into the second period and was followed up by another Wranglers goal exactly three minutes later. This power play goal came from a blast from Nick DeSimone. Connor Zary and Matthew Phillips assisted.

The Wranglers ended the second period up 2-0 and just narrowly trailed in shots 9-8. In the third, the momentum continued to roll in the Wranglers’ favour. The third period scoring started with Alex Gallant’s first goal of the season 5:56 into the period. He chipped in the puck mid-fall and appeared to hit the ice pretty hard.

Adam Klapka and Calder Brooks assisted on Gallant’s goal. The next goal was from Emilio Pettersen 11:33 into the period. Pettersen picked off a Tucson pass and skated the puck into the zone and elevated a backhand shot over the shoulder of the Roadrunners&#8217; netminder.

The Roadrunners wasted no time pulling their goalie to try and get some last minute production going. They pulled Tyler Parks 13:38 into the third and 16:55 into the period, Adam Klapka scored on the empty net. Kevin Rooney picked up the lone assist. 
The final score was 5-0 Wranglers and shots finished up 30-29 for Tucson. Dustin Wolf had another dialled-in night between the pipes stopping all 30 of those Roadrunners shots. 
Josh Doan did end up making his professional debut for the Tucson Roadrunners during this game but had a pretty quiet game. He ended up with one shot and a -1 rating on the night. He may be a player to watch in their next game with some of the first-game jitters behind him.
