The Calgary Wranglers made a stop in Bakersfield, CA to face the Condors for the seventh time this season. Bakersfield has the edge in the series but Calgary is hungrier for points at this point in the season. Calgary came out with a good start but it was Bakersfield who struck first. The Wranglers answered back by the end of the first period and kept things close after falling behind 3-1 in the second and getting back within one by the end of the frame. Calgary battled back from behind multiple times this game and forced an overtime where they’d eventually win the game on their first shot of the extra frame. The final score was 5-4.
Lineup notes
Alex Gallant and Dryden Hunt weren’t quite ready to return for this game and did not take warm up with the team. To fill a gap for Matvei Gridin’s call-up, David Silye returned to the lineup. Arsenii Sergeev got his second straight start after helping lead the team to a shootout win on Monday.

Game at a glance
The goaltending match-up for this game was Arsenii Sergeev in net for Calgary, then Connor Ungar between the pipes for the Condors. The Wranglers came out hot right from the start, with Justin Kirkland getting the first couple of looks for Calgary. The first penalty of the game came early against the Condors for tripping. The visiting Wranglers had some struggles holding the zone on this man advantage and only ended up putting up a single shot on this power play.
After this penalty kill, the Condors registered their first shot of the game at 5:01, then a gathering behind the net happened after the save. No calls came out of this. At 5:48, the Condors struck first when Etienne Morin was backchecking and Seth Griffith just pushed the puck up and Sergeev lost sight of it. The puck slipped over the line and it was 1-0 for the home team on an unfortunate play. It was originally credited to Max Jones but reviewed in the intermission and changes to the Captain of the Condors.
The Wranglers got another chance on the power play at 7:05 when Riley Stillman was called for high-sticking. Calgary couldn’t register any shots on this chance either and the Condors ended up taking some chances the other way. Aydar Suniev got one of the best chances at the 16-minute mark when he skated into the zone and was being minimally defended, so he went for the shot.
The Wranglers ended up getting an answer back goal at 19:02, when William Stromgren started a rush, Daniil Miromanov corralled it, then Rory Kerins set up William Stromgren for the goal.
The last minute played out of the period and the Wranglers and Condors were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. Shots were an even 8-8 in the first frame. The Wranglers had a good couple of shifts to start the first but the Condors ended up taking the puck the other way and scoring on a back-door play finished off by Alec Regula. This goal came at 2:47.
Calgary was able to cycle the zone about three minutes later and get a few shots off but Ungar shut them down. At 7:39, Bakersfield added to their lead with a deflection from Ethan Keppen. This goal was also announced as another skater initially. The Condors were wearing themed jerseys and the numbers were harder to read for this game.
At 11:40, Sam Morton was taken down along the boards by Quinn Hutson and Hunter Brzustewicz jumped Hutson for this hit. Calgary ended up on the power play with Hutson and Brzustewicz taking roughing calls, and Hutson also being tagged with the boarding call that Isaac Howard served.
Later in the period, the Wranglers were penalty killing when Rory Kerins was called for tripping at 16:35. The Condors got a couple of shots off then the Wranglers took the rush the other way. Carter King set up a pass in the slot and Turner Ottenbreit was there to drive it home. The Wranglers scored this shorthanded goal with Kerins still in the box at 18:05. Sam Morton picked up the secondary assist.

The Wranglers continued the pressure for the rest of the period and outshot Bakersfield 17-13 in the middle frame. By the end of 40 minutes, the Wranglers were within one but trailing 3-2. Early in the third, Daniil Miromanov was called for high sticking. The Wranglers killed this off and continued to work for that equalizing marker.
Around the eight minute mark, Carter Wilkie was trying to make some space for himself in the zone and received a cross check to the face. This came without a call and he managed to get himself off the ice. Wilkie didn’t need to leave the game but this was a dirty play. At 10:04, a Condors skater lost his footing and fell over the body of Parker Bell. David Silye picked up this turnover and shot it right in the back of the net. This goal came unassisted.

At 11:56, Justin Kirkland was called for elbowing then 22 seconds into the power play, Bakersfield scored to take a 4-3 lead. This goal came from Atro Leppanen. Time was running out for the Wranglers to score that answer back goal and at 18:36, they were able to hold possession long enough for Arsenii Sergeev to go off. 11 seconds later, Martin Frk ripped a shot past Ungar and scored with 1:13 to go in regulation. William Stromgren and Daniil Miromanov picked up the assists.

Regulation came to a close and the Wranglers and Condors were still tied 4-4. To start overtime, Daniil MIromanov, William Stromgren and Rory Kerins went out for the first shift. Just 31 seconds into overtime, Daniil Miromanov went for the game winning shot and found it. Stromgren and Kerins earned the assists on this marker.
After the game, Miromanov talked about what he saw on this play and said:
“I thought I had a little bit of space and I think it was Hudson who was defending me. Most of the time, forwards are not used to defending one on one rushes also. So I tried to go wide and kind of put my shoulder down so that’s what happened. I kind of saw the goalie out of the corner of my eyes get ready to poke check the puck so I just went five hole. Glad it went in. It’s huge for the team. Late comeback was huge and it just feels great to get two points and just get ready for tomorrow.”
The Wranglers picked up the 5-4 win in overtime and shots finished 33-29 for Calgary. Two Wranglers made it to the three stars, with Martin Frk getting the third star and Daniil Miromanov getting the first.
