The Calgary Wranglers needed a bounce-back game after falling 7-4 to the Eagles in their season opener. On Saturday, they played with a lot more poise and control but scoring was on the complete other side of the spectrum.
An Eagles goal in the opening minute ended up being the only one of the game as Calgary fell for their second straight game with a final score of 1-0.

Lineup notes

The Wranglers made three changes in this game. One in each position. Parker Bell, Artem Grushnikov and Ivan Prosvetov drew out of the lineup and Alex Gallant, Etienne Morin and Owen Say came in their spots. Prosvetov still dressed as Say’s back-up.

Game at a glance

Owen Say played in his first professional game on Saturday, starting in net for the Wranglers. On the other end of the ice, the Eagles went with Isak Posch for the back to back start. Say was challenged early and unfortunately, scored on early too. Jayson Megna buried a rebound 42 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead.
Calgary was noticeably more disciplined to start this game and the first three penalties of the game were dealt to Colorado. The Wranglers weren’t able to capitalize on these chances but did get their share of looks.
Rory Kerins put up a hit on T.J. Tyna that his teammates didn’t appreciate at the end of the period. This drew a crowd and some exchanging of words. Once they headed off for the first intermission, the Eagles held a 1-0 lead and Calgary had a 7-2 edge in shots.
The second period was quite a bit more tilted in the Eagles’ direction but did not have the same result as their game the previous night. Calgary kept Colorado at bay and did end up in the box a couple of times but the score remained 1-0 Eagles. Shots in the middle frame were 12-8 Colorado.
The third showed signs of fatigue between these squads in their first back to back of the season and it was mostly Colorado leading the charge in offensive zone time. By the last 2:09 of the period, the Wranglers pulled Say then Martin Frk was called for tripping with a minute to go in regulation.
They played it safe in the last minute to get Owen Say back to the net as needed throughout the last minute but they weren’t able to register any more shots. At the end of regulation, the Eagles took a 1-0 win and shots finished 22-18 for Colorado. By no surprise, it was Rory Kerins and Dryden Hunt who had the most shots out of the Wranglers skaters in this game.
