The Calgary Wranglers fell to the Henderson Silver Knights on Friday in what turned into a high scoring competition for their opponents. The score finished at 5-2 mostly due to a hat trick performance from Mitch McLain. On Saturday, they looked to get a game back on the series and keep the scoring closer.
They were successful in keeping up with their Pacific Division opponents through regulation and overtime but Henderson’s success in the shootout earned them a 2-1 win.
Lineup notes
The Wranglers only made one change for the back half of this back-to-back. Joni Jurmo returned to the lineup for this first game since January 1st as he had been battling an injury for the last month. Coming out of the lineup was Connor Mylymok so Calgary skated with seven defenceman and 11 forwards for this game.

Game at a glance
The goaltending match up for this game was the same as the night prior with Devin Coolet in net for Calgary and Carl Lindbom between the pipes for Henderson. The Silver Knights nearly scored in the first five seconds of this game but Cooley was alert and ready to make a huge save.
Even with this play, the Wranglers struck first in this game at 4:02. Clark Bishop and William Stromgren did everything in their power to get the puck back in the offensive zone and Sam Honzek finished off the play with a wrist shot.
Just over two minutes later, the Silver Knights answered back when a shot from the point deflected off Mason Morelli’s leg and into the back of the net. This goal came at 6:18 and evened things up in this game early. Each side took a penalty over the course of this period but the score remained an even 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. Calgary had a slight edge in shots putting up eight shots to Henderson’s seven in the opening period.
The Wranglers had the better chances for shots on goal in the second period but did not pull ahead in this middle frame. They didn’t allow the Silver Knights to put a shot on goal until 10:49 when they were on the power play. The only other shots from the home team came in the last 1:05 of the period. Calgary had a 9-3 edge in shots on goal through the second period but the score remained 1-1 at the end of 40 minutes.
Calgary and Henderson had a pretty even third period and each tried their hardest to decide this game in regulation. They both kept things pretty composed until the last two minutes when Lucas Johansen was called for hooking. The Wranglers put up a couple of shots on this power play but still no goals to decide this game. Shots in the third finished an even 7-7.
In overtime, neither side could really generate any solid zone time and seemed more focused on keeping four-on-four after the penalty expired. They were able to do so for the whole overtime period. They only registered a single shot on goal in the extra frame between the two of them while the other shot attempts went wide. This shot also came in the last three seconds of overtime from Lucas Johansen, but Cooley turned it away.
In the shootout, the Silver Knights opted to go first and Matyas Sapovaliv scored on Devin Cooley. William Stromgren went first for the Wranglers and scored on a nifty move on Lindbom. Jakub Brabenec was the second shooter for Henderson and also scored. Jeremie Poirier went next for Calgary but was denied on his attempt. Gage Quinney came in as the third shooter for the Silver Knights and won the game on his goal. Devin Cooley was unable to stop any of their shooters.
The total shots in this game finished 24-19 for Calgary and all three stars of the night went to Henderson players.
Scoring stat summary
Sam Honzek – 1G
Clark Bishop – 1A
William Stromgren – 1A
