Report: Flames prospects to join Canucks, Oilers and Jets for Young Stars Classic tournament

A little while back, we got word that the Vancouver Canucks were bringing back the Penticton Young Stars Classic prospect tournament this coming September. Now, from Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre, we have a few more details.
According to MacIntyre, the tournament will run Sept. 14-18 in Penticton, and feature the prospects of the Calgary Flames, Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets. Prior incarnations of the event featured round robin action and no playoffs, but we don’t have confirmation of that quite yet.
The Young Stars Classic tournament was previously a fixture of the pre-season calendar, occurring the week before main camp opened for the NHL clubs and featuring the key prospects from the western Canadian teams. The tournament was last held in 2018, as the Alberta clubs explored alternate arrangements in 2019 and then the pandemic disrupted ongoing plans to revive the event in 2020 and 2021. Well, it’s back!
We’ll have more information regarding prospect tournament schedules, rosters and training camp timelines later this summer.
